Street Food in Hanoi: Nộm


Nộm in Hanoi (gỏi in Southern Vietnam) is the indigenous salad of Vietnamese cuisine.It is to be distinguished from salad in Western style.

This salad is a mix of fresh vegetables and boiled, lean pork, beef, shrimp or small fry. Other ingredients and condiments include spice, herbs, and peanut. The salad is mixed, soaked in vinegar, sugar, garlic, pepper, and seasoned with salt.

One of the best known is Nộm thịt bò khô (kohlrabi and/or papaya, carrot, coriander, marjoram, basil mint with dried beef). Papaya salad (Nộm đu đủ), schrimp salad (Nộm tôm) and so on... are also popular.
